My favorite assignment in this course was the copyright assignment because it felt the most relevant to real life, especially with how much we all use social media. Copyright is something people don’t really talk about enough, even though it affects so much of the content we see and share every day. Before this assignment, I didn’t fully realize how easy it is to violate copyright laws just by reposting or using someone else’s work without permission. This assignment helped me understand the importance of giving proper credit and protecting original content. Since I’m interested in going into public relations, this really opened my eyes to how important it is to be careful with what I post or share on behalf of a brand or client.
The topic I think will be most helpful for me as a communications professional is intrusion. Before this class, I honestly didn’t know much about intrusion in a legal sense. Learning about it made me realize that even gathering information can cross a line if it invades someone’s privacy. In public relations, where you’re dealing with people, media, and sometimes sensitive situations, it’s really important to know those boundaries. This topic helped me understand how to be more respectful and ethical when handling information.
The knowledge I gained this month has definitely helped me feel more prepared for the communications industry. Even though I haven’t worked in public relations yet, I now have a better understanding of the legal risks that can come with the job. Moving forward, I can apply what I learned by being more mindful about copyright, privacy, and how I use information. Overall, this course gave me a solid foundation and made me more confident about handling real-world situations in my future career.

Hoschton Leaders Resign after Black City Manager Candidate alleges Racial Bias
Intro
Racial trauma continues to shape the mental health of millions of Americans, yet it remains underrecognized in clinical and public health systems. While Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is widely associated with combat veterans and survivors of violence, experts say repeated exposure to racism can produce similar psychological harm. The evidence shows that racial trauma is not only real but widespread, and it should be treated as a serious public health issue requiring greater recognition, research, and access to care.
Clinical Recognition of Racial Trauma
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs defines racial trauma as the cumulative psychological impact of racism, including discrimination, harassment, and systemic inequities. According to the VA, these experiences can trigger symptoms consistent with PTSD, including anxiety, emotional distress and hypervigilance. Unlike single-incident trauma, racial trauma is often ongoing, making recovery more difficult and increasing long-term mental health risks.
Disparities in PTSD Among Minority Populations
Research shows racial and ethnic minorities experience higher exposure to trauma but are less likely to receive treatment. A report from the VA found Black Americans have higher rates of PTSD compared to other groups, while also facing barriers to care, including stigma and limited access to culturally competent providers. This gap contributes to prolonged suffering and worsens mental health outcomes in already vulnerable communities.
Psychological and Behavioral Impact
Mental health researchers say racial trauma can affect emotional, cognitive and behavioral functioning. Symptoms often include depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and social withdrawal. Over time, these effects can disrupt daily life, relationships and career opportunities. Experts note that chronic exposure to discrimination can lead to long-term stress responses similar to those seen in traditional PTSD cases.
Counterargument
Some clinicians argue racial trauma should not be classified alongside PTSD because it does not always meet the diagnostic criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Others caution that labeling it as PTSD may blur the line between clinical disorders and social conditions.
However, mental health advocates say this distinction overlooks the real and measurable harm caused by repeated exposure to racism. The lack of formal classification may contribute to underdiagnosis and limited treatment options. As research evolves, many experts argue that diagnostic frameworks should adapt to reflect lived experiences and emerging evidence.
Conclusion (Solution / Call to Action)
Addressing racial trauma will require coordinated efforts across healthcare, policy and education systems. Experts recommend expanding research, improving access to culturally competent mental health care and increasing awareness among providers and the public. Recognizing racial trauma as a legitimate contributor to PTSD symptoms is a critical step toward closing treatment gaps and improving outcomes. Without action, the long-term effects of racial trauma will continue to impact individuals and communities across generations.

Intro
On any given day, millions of Americans dine out expecting their meals to be safe. Yet behind kitchen doors, health inspectors continue to uncover the same critical violations—improper temperatures, poor hygiene and cross-contamination.
Food service regulations have evolved for over a century to protect public health, but violations remain a persistent issue across restaurants, hospitals and catering operations. The problem is not a lack of rules—it is the challenge of consistent enforcement, training and compliance in fast-paced food environments.
Temperature Control Failures Continue to Dominate Violations
One of the most common and dangerous food safety issues is improper time and temperature control. The “temperature danger zone,” typically between 41°F and 135°F, allows bacteria to grow rapidly when food is not stored or cooked properly.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, improper holding temperatures are a leading contributing factor in foodborne illness outbreaks. Food that is left out too long or not cooked to the correct internal temperature becomes a serious health risk.
Learn more from the FDA here:
https://www.fda.gov/food/buy-store-serve-safe-food/safe-food-handlingIn high-volume kitchens, especially in institutional settings like hospitals or military dining facilities, maintaining strict temperature logs can be difficult. However, failure to do so can lead to outbreaks that impact dozens—or even hundreds—of people.
Hygiene and Training Gaps Put Consumers at Risk
Employee hygiene is another major factor in recurring violations. Something as simple as improper handwashing can spread harmful pathogens like norovirus, one of the leading causes of foodborne illness in the United States.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasizes that food workers play a critical role in preventing illness, yet gaps in training and enforcement still exist.
Read more from the CDC:
https://www.cdc.gov/foodborneburden/index.htmlMany food service workers operate under time pressure, which can lead to shortcuts in sanitation practices. In some cases, a lack of consistent training or high employee turnover contributes to these lapses. For culinary professionals, maintaining hygiene standards is not optional—it is essential to protecting public health.
Cross-Contamination Remains a Persistent Threat
Cross-contamination occurs when harmful bacteria are transferred from one surface, food or utensil to another. This often happens when raw and cooked foods are not properly separated or when equipment is not adequately cleaned.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture warns that cross-contamination is one of the most preventable yet common causes of foodborne illness.
Explore USDA guidance here:
https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2016/09/27/cross-contamination-and-food-safetyIn busy kitchens, especially during peak service hours, strict separation protocols can break down. Cutting boards, knives and storage areas must be carefully managed to prevent contamination. Even a small mistake can have serious consequences for customers.
Conclusion
Food safety regulations have come a long way, but the persistence of common violations shows that rules alone are not enough. Ongoing training, accountability and awareness are critical to ensuring compliance in every kitchen.
For those in the culinary field, understanding these risks is essential—not just for passing inspections, but for protecting lives. Readers can learn more about food safety practices and regulations through the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act page:
https://www.fda.gov/food/food-safety-modernization-act-fsmaAs the food service industry continues to grow, the responsibility to uphold safety standards remains shared by everyone—from chefs to managers to frontline workers.

Flashing patrol lights illuminated a late-night traffic stop in Palmdale, California, in June 2022, when an encounter between sheriff’s deputies and a mother holding her infant escalated into a physical confrontation that is now the subject of competing lawsuits.
The incident involving Yeayo Russell and former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy Timothy Gardner has drawn attention because of body-camera footage showing Russell being punched while holding her 3-week-old baby. The case has prompted legal action from both Russell and Gardner and raised questions about law enforcement conduct and accountability.
According to reports from Atlanta Black Star and the Los Angeles Times, deputies stopped a vehicle because the driver allegedly appeared intoxicated and was driving without headlights. Russell was one of four people in the car and was holding her infant during the stop.
Video of the incident shows deputies attempting to remove the child from Russell’s arms as they tried to detain her. During the struggle, Gardner struck Russell in the face while other deputies attempted to take the baby.
Russell can be heard in the video shouting, “Y’all gonna have to shoot me dead to take my baby from my arms,” as deputies attempted to separate her from the child.
Gardner was later relieved of duty following the incident. In 2023, Russell filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force during the arrest. According to the Los Angeles Times, the case resulted in a proposed settlement that had not yet been approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors as of early 2025.
Weeks after the settlement discussions became public, Gardner filed a separate lawsuit against Los Angeles County challenging his termination. In the lawsuit, Gardner argued that the department dismissed him primarily because the incident created negative public perception.
According to the lawsuit, Gardner claimed the termination was influenced by what he described as “bad optics” following the release of the video.
Gardner’s lawsuit also referenced statements from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department North Patrol Chief Dennis Kneer. According to court filings, Gardner’s legal team argued that similar tactics had been used previously during arrests and that he should not have been singled out for discipline.
The case has also been discussed in the context of other incidents involving the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Reports cited by Atlanta Black Star describe previous situations involving allegations of racial profiling or excessive force against Black residents.
In one reported incident, a woman who called 911 during a domestic violence situation was shot and killed by a deputy responding to the call. In another case referenced in reports, a Black man was forced out of his home after deputies mistakenly believed he had broken into the residence where he lived.
Federal data has also been cited in discussions about policing practices in the region. A report from the U.S. Department of Justice examining law enforcement practices in communities served by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department found disparities in traffic stops involving minority residents.
According to the report, many residents in the region are members of minority communities, and the data showed that African American drivers were stopped at higher rates than other groups.
The legal disputes involving Russell and Gardner remain unresolved. Russell’s lawsuit focuses on the use of force during the arrest, while Gardner’s lawsuit challenges the sheriff’s department’s decision to terminate his employment.
The outcome of both cases will ultimately be decided through the legal process.

1.What your original goal was for this course.
The original goal of the course is to learn how effective the business model presentation can be if done right. This course was put in place to give us a better idea of what the balance should be between not enough detail and enough clarification. This course’s goal was also to teach us about the elevator pitch.
2.How the goal was met by the course.
Dr. Will was very helpful with insight and feedback. I had trouble with understanding how the elevator pitch had to be for the assignment. He also gave me more of a better idea of how I could improve my business model thesis presentation.
3.What you learned from this course.
I got more information about how to be able to present a business presentation to a panel. I also learned more about how short and clear an elevator pitch should be.
4.How you will apply the material learned in the course personally or professionally.
I will use this when teaching a course at my reserve unit. I have taught classes, but knowing how to make the information more clear and concise will help me with keeping the lessons short and essential.

Hoschton Leaders Resign after Black City Manager Candidate alleges Racial Bias
My original goal of the course was to learn different methods of operating a business in a creative way. As a potential entrepreneur, I would like to know more about operation of a business in a creative and innovative way. As entrepreneurs, we have to be able to be innovative and go with the flow when there are changes. Changes come and go, we as business owners have to learn to pivot when there are changes and issues that come about. My original goal has been met with the course thus far.
My goal for the product design and development course is to know more about the process of how to develop your idea into a physical product. As entrepreneurs, it is very important that we know the process of development through and through. I also want to dive deeper into the lean startup method. The lean startup method is essential to the startup of a brand new business.
This course has hit on a lot of the topics that assist in the operation of a business in more than just your normal innovative and creative way. I have learned a lot about what comes into play when you are operating a business in whatever industry you choose. Recently, we went over the lean startup method for starting a business. I also learned more about social entrepreneurship and what it consists of. With the learnings of social entrepreneurship and how it can apply it to my business ideas, it can help me in the long run. Also, the lean startup method is really different compared to the traditional startup method for starting a new business or presenting a business idea.
What I learned from this course about social entrepreneurship is that you must have a purpose with your business. Social entrepreneurship is all about having an ultimate reason to operate your business. When it comes to social entrepreneurship, you want to make a social impact on your community or the world. The whole idea behind having a business is wondering how do you want to customers and consumers to see you as the owner and operator of the business. In the eyes of the public, you want to have a positive face in regard to the business being successful. You want customers to know that you are going to take care of them with whatever goods and services you are selling to them.
What I learned about the lean startup method is that it is different from the traditional method in many ways. In the traditional method of starting a business, they did not focus on how to combat any failures that may come about. Also, the lean startup method has a more organized process compared to the traditional method. The lean startup method is known for coming up with better ways of going against any issues because they have ways that you, as the owner and operator of your business, could pivot your strategy if need be.
I also learned about some of the known creative entrepreneurs and their businesses. The entrepreneurs that I chose was from the show “The Bear” from the FX network. These creators took what we see in the normal culinary setting and changed it around to make it into a comical satire environment. I resonated with this creator because I come from a culinary career. I have over 12 years working in kitchens and it was relieving to see that we can change things around and poke fun at some of the things we do to make it more relatable to the public. I will apply my learnings to my business ideas by learning to pivot and change up the content and menus if need be. As a food service owner and operator, I would need to be flexible and adjust as needed before I get to my final product that my customers will consume.
